Inspired by fractal geometries and the geometric symbols repeated in all cultures around the world, the Mandala series allows an unlimited number of patterns made only with reused paper.

Each work is unique because of its creation process. Every composition is a game between choosing the folding method of paper, and how will the chosen external layers compose the final graphic pattern.

Inspirada por las geometrías fractales y los símbolos geométricos repetidos en todas las culturas alrededor del mundo, la serie Mandala permite un número ilimitado de patrones hechos únicamente reutilizando papel.

Cada obra es única debido a su proceso de creación. Cada composición es un juego entre la elección del método de plegado del papel, y de cómo las capas finales escogidas compondrán el patrón gráfico exterior.

The amount of glue used in the Mandala series is minimum. The aim was to create beautiful patterns with simple foldings and take the most of the already existing graphic designs printed on the paper. The weigh of every piece is enough to stand firm on its position and move the object easily.

The Mandala coffee table has wheels to allow a soft movement. Wheels can be blocked to disallow movement.

La cantidad de adhesivo usado en la serie Mandala es mínimo. El objetivo era crear bellos patrones con pliegues sencillos y aprovechar al máximo los diseños gráficos impresos en el papel. El peso de cada pieza es suficiente para mantenerla firme en su posición y mover el objeto fácilmente.

La mesa de café Mandala tiene ruedas que permiten un movimiento suave. Las ruedas pueden bloquearse para evitar el movimiento.

Every pattern is unique because each piece is handmade. The possible designs and patterns are unlimited.

Cada patrón es único debido a que cada pieza está hecha a mano. Los posibles diseños y patrones son ilimitados.

Nudage 2011

The Nudage Space is the 1st International Meeting of Independent Design in Santander, “Design without additives”; and will be held at the hall of the “Archivo Regional de Cantabria” and the “Biblioteca Central de Cantabria”. Retrain will be there exposign the SOFI Chair, the PRESENT Table and the BAMBULB Lamp.

Retrain will also organize a short free workshop where you can get in touch with the creative design by reusing waste materials.

El Espacio Nudage es el 1er Encuentro Internacional de Diseño Independiente in Santander, “Diseño sin aditivos”; y se desarrollará en el hall del “Archivo Regional de Cantabria” y la “Biblioteca Central de Cantabria”. Retrain estará allí exponiendo la Silla SOFI, la Mesa PRESENT y la Lámpara BAMBULB.

Retrain también organizará un pequeño workshop gratuito donde tomar contacto con el diseño creativo mediante la reutilización de materiales desechados.

“The roots of Environment” exhibition | Exposición “Las raíces del Medio Ambiente”

The exhibition, held in the “Palacete del embarcadero” in Santander, will be open from december, 14th to 31th. There, Retrain will show the PRESENT Table, the SOFI Chair and a special object made for this event: the paper YEZA. The exhibition is organized by the “Consejería del Medio Ambiente Cantabria“, the “Centro del Medio Ambiente (CIMA)” and the “Medio Ambiente, Agua, Residuos y Energía de Cantabria (MARE)” institutions, with the support of the “Autoridad Portuaria de Santander“.

La exposición, alojada en el “Palacete del embarcadero” en Santander, permanecerá abierta desde el 14 al 31 de Diciembre. Allí, Retrain expondrá la Mesa PRESENT, la Silla SOFI y un objeto especial hecho para este evento: la YEZA de papel. La exposición está organizada por las instituciones: “Consejería del Medio Ambiente Cantabria“, “Centro del Medio Ambiente (CIMA)” y “Medio Ambiente, Agua, Residuos y Energía de Cantabria (MARE)“, con el apoyo de la “Autoridad Portuaria de Santander“.

Made with reused paper from newspaper and magazines that came into my mailbox. Reused paper is used as structure, as skin and also as external graphic design, by using different process techniques. The Present Table is finished with a colorful photo collage on the top, that represents a subjective view of all the different creation phases.

Hecha con papel reusado de periódicos y revistas que llegaban a mi buzón. El papel reusado es empleado como estructura, como piel y también como diseño gráfico exterior, mediante el uso de diferentes técnicas de proceso. La Mesa Present está acabada con un collage fotográfico a todo color en la parte superior, que representa una visión subjetiva de las diferentes etapas de creación.

The Present Table is almost 100% made from reused paper. The structure is made of paper tubes, joint with small wooden sticks and linen cord. The cover is made by braiding paper strips with tubes that work as wicker, becoming a combination that allows strength and aesthetic value. The legs were reinforced with sisal cord and covered with an external decorative layer.

The Present Table shows very clearly the material that is made from and plays with it. Collages of images are present all over the object. The creation of the object produces the external visual aspect at the same time, generating a color mosaic derived from the own material. The top is a collage that represents the author’s vision about the different creation phases of the object.

The unions are hidden with paper that has printed figures in it, those figures return our gaze to the curious and protect the union. The Present Table makes an evolution of the visual language generated by the material reuse, as it did the Átomo Stool.

La Mesa Present está realizada casi al 100% con papel reusado. La estructura está hecha con tubos de papel, unidos éstos con finas varillas de madera y cuerda de lino. La cubierta está realizada trenzando tiras de papel con tubos que funcionan a modo de mimbre, combinación que promete una gran resistencia y elevado valor estético. Las patas se reforzaron con cuerda de sisal y se decoraron exteriormente con papel.

La Mesa Present muestra muy claramente el material del cual está hecho y juega con él. El collage de imágenes está presente en todo el objeto. La creación del objeto produce a su vez el aspecto visual externo del mismo, generando un mosaico de colores derivados del propio material. La parte superior es un collage intencionado que representa la visión del autor sobre las diferentes fases de creación del objeto.

Las uniones se han ocultado con papel con figuras impresas en él, que devuelven la mirada a los curiosos y protegen la unión. La Mesa Present evoluciona el lenguaje visual generado por el reuso del material, al igual que hizo el Taburete Átomo.
